Not only the styles of dresses are dissimilar from each other, but also the faces of the dolls and the applied techniques of making the dolls vary. Some are relatively simple while others are very dedicated. Addition to the the pictures of the dolls, the author also presents comparative historical figures on the side.
Under the Chinese doll section there are only a few pictures presented. Having 56 distinguished ethnic groups, China can offer much more than that on this topic. This is also true for Russia, Indonesia, Iran and some small countries and regions (for instance, Korea and Finland). The rich world colors are waiting for exploration.
In 2007 from a daily market of Guilin city, Guangxi Province, P.R. China I have purchased a few ethnic dolls key chain with less than 2 euro. Guangxi Province, offically called Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is ruled by the biggest ethnic group in the area: Zhuang. Addition to Zhuang, There live other ethnic groups as well: Dong, Miao and Yao, for instance.
In 2008 I have purchased a doll from a shop in Freiburg, Germany. She is a peasant girl with silky dark brown long hair which is covered by scarf. The dress is similar to the traditional German/Austrian costume Dirndl: blouse, bodice and full skirt (without apron). The plain color of this dress indicates her practical rural lifestyle. I have to admit that the first thing attracted me towards this doll was the goose under her arm. Because the goose added additional lively aura to her.
